MOR FUN FLORALS

 

Good Morning CHICsters, 

My summer in NYC has been hectic with tons of parties, events, meetings etc...so much so that my body said "pump your brakes" the day before & I was super sick. After a few hours of rest the show went on as I attended MOR, one of the hottest caribbean events of the summer. 

Yesterday was a scorcher in the city. It was one of those days where you felt like wearing less clothing but just the thought alone of the sun touching your skin is unbearable. 

I chose this floral skater dress which has large scaled white flowers with bright green leaves on a baby pink background. 

This dress actually has a low cut back and a high neckline, but I wouldn't be me  if I didn't alter it a bit. I'm wearing the dress backwards, LOL... Low cut in the front just takes the little summer dress up a notch. 

The comfiest lace up sandals from Sole Society, paired with a simple Kate Spade watch, and vintage earrings & clutch tied the entire look together. 

 

Total cost (sans shoes) = $19

This just goes to show why I always say, You don't have to spend a million to look like one

Mahogany Ish

Today was an extremely long day for me, meetings, interviews, more meetings, lunch at my daughter's school, then another meeting before the kids got home and I have to take off my Blogger Hat and adorn my Super Mom Cape.  

I'll tell you a little secret about my dressing routine....there is none! LOL. The only time I pay attention to details of what dress, shoes, or handbag I should wear is if I'm packing for an extended trip. Other than that, I stand in my closet in the wee hours of the morning, still half asleep and just grab stuff and throw it on. Most of the time it works, and the time I'm just not feeling a look I just wear it anyway and pretend I planned to look as such. HAHAHA Own it! 

Weekend CHIC: Silver Lining

Hola CHICsters *waves*, I've been so busy lately that I'm ecstatic to finally have some down time. As the weather is transitioning a simple way to keep that evening chill away while still looking CHIC is to throw on a cardigan over your basic white tee and denim look. Add a pop of color with your handbag such as this Kate Spade New York pictured, and don't forget a scarf in a complimentary color to pull the whole look together. I usually wear sneakers, or flats on the weekends as I'm usually chasing my kids around the city, but if you are able to wear heels and still keep up, by all means a suede bootie with a small platform is a MUST. I love gray booties! It's such a great neutral for the season when you want something other than the classic browns or black.

Well that's all for now my darlings... off to a movie date with the brats...

RAINY DAY CHIC

That moment when you wake up in the morning, stretch and as you glance outside your window you realize it's gonna be a gloomy, rainy day *sigh*. Have no fear...other than the fact that this hair does not cooperate in rainy weather, I actually like the rain. As long as it isn't cold AND raining...I'm good! An easy way to add some cheer to your rainy day morning commute is to add a pop of color to your attire. Trust me, it works!

Here are a few essentials I think is totally necessary for such occasions: a waterproof coat that is roomy enough to fit over your work outfit without having you feel all stuffy and uncomfortable. A belted one is great for accentuating a waistline. Rain boots, or Wellies as they're called in the UK are not only functional for puddle stepping, but they also come in a variety of colors and patterns from basic black to this fun bug printed pair by Tory Burch. A handbag that is large enough to carry all of your essentials in an easy to wipe off material is also great. Last but not least, the umbrella...and not some boring, half broken I just keep in my car umbrella either. Get a nice umbrella that is functional!!! I can't stress this enough. There's nothing more ridiculous than a person with an umbrella not proportioned to their body *side eye*. Like seriously though...what's the point? LOL. If you're not planning on getting drenched, at least use the right size umbrella. I prefer ones that is mostly clear for obvious reasons. Growing up in NYC and having to walk everywhere whether it's raining or not, you tend to appreciate these kind of umbrellas where people can actually see where they're going and not bumping into you because of an obstructed view HA!.

HELLO YELLOW

Scientists and other smarty pants people out there say that yellow is the color that awakens your senses and instills feelings of happiness. It's "The color of joy"...do you agree? LOL. I must admit that yellow was never my go to color or one of my faves because I'm a total purple lover, but it is a color that makes me feel a sense of joy. The sun is yellow, daisies are yellow, and what else can brighten a rainy day than a pair of yellow rain boots :-) OK fine..I give in! I am now a yellow lover. 

Because of the brightness of the color, many are afraid of wearing it. Don't be!! No one says that you have tp wear it from head to toe like an oversized rubber ducky, but a pop of color in your accessories is a great way to inject some of this instant joy into your attire. Still not sure? Well how about your home decor or office space? Add some summer cheer to a neutral pallette with either solid yellow, or yellow print throw pillows for your sofa or bed. Or if you need to organize your office area or closet space, try some stackable storage boxes such as the ones below to keep your space tidy and add a CHIC statement to your space at the same time. It's like a two for one deal, who can beat that? LOL

MAXI CHIC

I don't know about you but I LOVE a maxi dress during the warmer seasons. It gives the feel of wearing a gown yet it's still casual and reminds me of those old Hollywood movies where those gorgeous actresses would lay around in the most stunning floor sweeping dresses *sigh*. You can wear a maxi dress with flip flops, heels, even sneakers, but my FAVE way to wear them is a mix between casual...and almost dressed up. You know those days when a friend asks you at the last minute to meet her to do a cake and wine tasting for her upcoming wedding? (She shall remain nameless LOL). Well, this is the perfect look! People treat you differently when you look well put together..trust me on this one :-)

Saturday shopping, one of my favorite pastimes ESPECIALLY when there's a good sale going on. So many stores are having great Saturday Sales this weekend partly because they want everyone to get their last minute Mother's Day gift, and while you're in there why not get a few things for yourself. TGIF!

As soon as I saw this tee from Kate Spade I HAD TO HAVE IT! First off, I love a good quality tee, and all of the ones that I have of this brand has held up well with my "throw it all in the washer" routine (don't judge me). Plus, as you may have already started to notice, I have a soft spot for tops that "make a statement". I just think they're kinda cool LOL. My son asked me what the "!" on the tee meant, and I told him that it depends on what you're feeling. Today it's my "TGIF!" tee, another day it may be my "This ATL traffic sucks" tee ... it all just depends :-)
