Peachy Keen

Ahhhh, this vacation was so well deserved after a busy year. The weather in Miami permits for all of those bare as you dare outfits, which you get to see alot of while walking along the strip in South Beach.  Ummm let's just say that some of those bodies are phenomenal, while others *side eye* not so much.

I've passed the age where i make all of my fashion blunders like wearing the wrong underwear, or just something thats not flattering at all. For women especially, I think it's important to know your body and highlight whatever area is the best on you.

Wore this for a lunch date and it suit the occasion and atmosphere perfectly. This acid wash crop is something I bought at a local boutique here in Atlanta earlier this year and I've worn before. I love the wash and cut of the crop, but let me just say that the zippered back can pose a problem to get in and out of without some help LOL.

Paired the crop with what some thought was a skirt, but actually they were shorts. The peach color is soooo Miami, and the lightweight fabric and flowing style was perfect to combat that humid weather.
These sandals were a pair I picked up this summer at JC Penney . The belt is Michael Kors and the built in pouch came in handy because who really wants to carry around a clutch or handbag while on vacation?

Simple outfit, easy day time attire. Don't mind the shadow of my photographer in this pic LOL, that sun was relentless that afternoon.

Don't you just love this shot? I'm so ready for my next trip *sigh*

Have a Lovely Day CHICsters,
Keep up with the blog this week for more vacation looks and Miami-Broward Carnival culture

MIAMI CARNIVAL 2013

Hola CHICsters,

I'm so excited for this weeks posts. As many of you know I was missing in action on the blog a couple of weeks ago because I was on vacation in sunny Miami for some relaxation and to enjoy Miami Carnival. No I'm not talking about the carnival with Ferris wheels and roller coasters *side eye* LL..I'm talking about the well known cultural festival where people of Caribbean descent and all other cultures, come together for days of parties, music, and other festivities #GOODTIMES .

So this week I'm going to give you a crash course on a HUGE part of my culture, while posting various outfit pics, events, as well as costumes that was worn for the Carnival.

Miami-Broward Carnival always takes place during Columbus weekend, and is a week long list of partying, partying, and more partying LOL.

Typically I get to Miami on a Thursday and enjoy all of the festivities up until the day of the actual Carnival, which is Sunday then fly back home either Monday or Tuesday morning for the latest. But this year...my significant other talked me into going earlier and staying later after the festivities were done to enjoy some other great aspects of vacationing in Miami that you really don't get to do with all those parties. Such a great idea!!

I actually got time to try new things like ride a scooter down the strip, and jet ski (which I will probably never do again )...I ain't about that jet ski life LOL.

The above pics are a few of the masqueraders (as they are called) that participated in the Miami-Broward Carnival.  Quick Carnival history lesson...Carnival started in the Caribbean Islands marking a time when slaves were emancipated from slavery (wayyyy before slaves were free in America) *side eye*. People took to the streets beating drums, dancing and singing songs in costumes. Today Carnival has become a multi-million dollar business on various islands such as Trinidad & Tobago, Grenada, and Barbados just to name a few, where Bands,(groups of masqueraders) compete to win titles after displaying quality, beautiful MAS (costumes).

In modern times, Carnival is basically a HUGE parade of REVELERS (Band participants) that prance down the city streets following large trucks carrying state of the art equipment pumping SOCA MUSIC (very fast paced) headed by top DJays, like Tony Cross of Natural Freaks Unlimited pictured here. Doesn't this sound like fun?

In Miami, the Carnival is on Sunday, but the week leading towards the GRANDE FINALE (Carnival Day) is nothing but endless Fetes (parties).
LOL, Are you guys keeping up with the crash course vocabulary lesson?

Carnival is also a time when participants pull out there best outfits showing off their own personal style as the above pic where the latest Adidas Originals Mutombo Tank was worn.

Out with my friend at Red Eye Fete enjoying the atmosphere.

Here's another party goer AND my wonderful client in a Tribal Print Midi Skirt & coordinating Turquoise crop...Great color for her skin tone don't you think?

Keep up with the blog this week as I show more pics, outfits, freestyle, and Mas from the Carnival. #CHICPANTRYINMIAMI

Couldn't end the post with out a STAPLE while you're in Miami whether you're in town for the Carnival or not, you must have a Call A Cab from Wet Willies...and when you do just make sure you do just that to get back to your hotel LOL..stronggggg stuff!

Have a CHICtastic Week...and follow me on IG/Twitter/and Facebook for more updates and pics

BROWNIN'

TGIF CHICsters,

Is it me or has this been like the longest week everrrr. It always feels that way after you've been on vacation I guess *shrugs*. I've been playing catch up all week running from meetings, to testing sample pieces for the online store (coming soon), to keeping up with the events of my 10 kids LOL ...or so it seemed. All of this while still under the weather and trying to get rid of this fever UGHHH.

Nonetheless, I don't believe in looking sick even if I am ...

Found this Member's Only jacket at a local thrift store here in Atlanta and snatched it up. It reminds me of when I was a little girl and I had a crush on one of my big brother's friend who had one of these jackets. He was soooo cool...and I was a lil brat in glasses...and a glasses cord *side eye* . LOL all you want, I loved those eye glass cords #Nerd hahaha

Paired the vintage treasure with chocolate over the knee boots, and my trusty Gucci hobo (had it for years) but similar style HERE

I love these chocolate boots, I have them in black as well. Random fact about me, if I LOVE something, I get two of it HA!

The tee was purchased in NYC over the summer from ZARA. Threw on a pair of skinny jeans...as you know I prefer the fit of Joe's Jeans but any pair that fits you well in a medium wash would work the same.

That's it....Hope you all enjoy your weekend and I'm going to try to get as much rest as possible.
While you're relaxing at home, stop by my Facebook page and hit that "LIKE" button...gracias

CHIC GIRL OF THE WEEK

What's up CHICsters??  *smiling and waving*

If you are following me on INSTAGRAM @CHICPANTRY  *as you should ;-) * then you are already familiar with my #CHICGIRLOFTHEWEEK and #CHICGUYOFTHEWEEK posts where I highlight one of my fashionable followers weekly showing off their personal style. While I was on my extended vacay in Miami, I started thinking "why do I just highlight Chic Girl and Chic Guy on Instagram?" "why not feature these FAB people on the blog as well?" ....So here we are!

This week's feature is none other than the Brooklyn beauty hailing from Point Fortin, Trinidad (South) Deidre...or as we call her "Dedge". Her style changes daily, from work, to girls night out, to church, or spending time with her loved ones. I appreciate versatility in style! From viewing her pics you can definitely see why she was selected as CHIC GIRL OF THE WEEK.

She goes from a casual denim look....

...To a funky look sporting a reddish/blonde natural look and over-sized cat-eye frames.

Even in black & white photos, her beauty and style speaks volumes!
(Yes, that's her ACTUAL hair by the way...before she did the big chop) *tear*

CHIC GIRL OF THE WEEK

And her son is quite dapper his self!!! Everyone say hi to Dubai xoxo
Maybe I should do a #CHICKidOfTheWeek next! Hmmmm ;-)

Congrats Dedge this week is all yours!!

All my stylish followers, this could be you next week. Want to show off your personal style? It's easy! Just tag me @ChicPantry on Instagram under your pics #CHICGIRLOFTHEWEEK or #CHICGUYOFTHEWEEK for your chance to be featured.

BOOTED UP

Hola CHICsters *waves*,

Did you miss me? I sure missed you all *pinky swear*. As most of you already know, I'm fresh off a WONDERFUL 10 day vacay in sunny Miami Florida. I was there for Miami Carnival or known to some as Caribbean/American Festival which was last weekend, which is a time where all of the Caribbean islands such as Trinidad, Jamaica, U.S. Virgin Islands, Barbados, and Grenada (just to name a few) all come together to celebrate our lively culture with great music, parties or fetes (as we call it), food, and friends!!! If you have never experienced it ...IT'S A MUST!!! Later this week after I gather up all of the photos from the various events, pictures of all the beautiful costumes I will post them up here on the blog. Until then, it's back to my routine...

From swimsuits to sweaters *sighs* LOL. Although it was about 70 degrees when I came outside, I was still a little chilly because my body was already used to the warmer Miami temp :-(
Although I was slightly cranky that I had to even wear long sleeves, I was excited to pull out these boots that I got from Zara last Fall that I just adore. I love boots in general, and these had a masculine look to them, which is actually trending currently, that made me snatch them up and swipe my card immediately LOL...no hesitation!

The sweater is a Vintage DVF treasure I found while on one of my many thrift store adventures.

These shorts was actually leftovers from the 47 pairs of distressed vintage denim I sold over a 2-day period this summer... (crazy right?). Hmmm maybe I will do a few more pairs, since clearly I'm one of those people that wear shorts year round LOL. That's what tights are for right?

The chocolate suede chain-strap handbag is also a thrifted treasure found in Houston, Texas.

Here's a close look of the details on these boots...LOVE 'EM!!!!

The back of the boot has a little stretch which is great for people with larger calf muscles, like yours truly *side eye*

Well I hope you enjoyed this post CHICsters, showing another way to transition some of your summer pieces through the cooler months.

Enjoy your week
xoxo,
Osa

Weekend CHIC: Silver Lining

Hola CHICsters *waves*, I've been so busy lately that I'm ecstatic to finally have some down time. As the weather is transitioning a simple way to keep that evening chill away while still looking CHIC is to throw on a cardigan over your basic white tee and denim look. Add a pop of color with your handbag such as this Kate Spade New York pictured, and don't forget a scarf in a complimentary color to pull the whole look together. I usually wear sneakers, or flats on the weekends as I'm usually chasing my kids around the city, but if you are able to wear heels and still keep up, by all means a suede bootie with a small platform is a MUST. I love gray booties! It's such a great neutral for the season when you want something other than the classic browns or black.

Weekend CHIC: Silver Lining

Well that's all for now my darlings... off to a movie date with the brats...
